BangkokHaps Crashes VIP Night At Hotel Art Fair 2019

Posted on 30 Jun, 2019

Heya everyone! Today, BangkokHaps is proud to present to you the largest and most unique art fair of the year organized at W Bangkok Hotel – This is Hotel Art Fair 2019. The art fair took place on the 7th and 8th floor of the hotel showcasing art pieces from 37 galleries under the theme ‘Breaking Boundaries’: art is supposed to represent boundless space in culture without man’s interference. If you missed the event, read on to be transported into a world (or hotel, more like) of glorious art.

This year, Farmgroup selected various artists across Asia from Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan and Thailand. This year marks the 6th anniversary of Hotel Art Fair in Thailand and it could not have been more fabulous. We enjoyed art work from more than 30 galleries across Asia including Richard Koh Projects, Artemis Art, L + / Lucie Chang Fine Arts, The Drawing Room - Project, Korea Tomorrow, Clear Gallery Tokyo, Core Design Gallery, and B-gallery. Local galleries exhibiting at Hotel Art Fair includes famous names like 333 Gallery in River City Bangkok, ATTA Gallery, De’Lapae Art Space Narathiwat, Purin Phanichphant, Leica Gallery Bangkok, Joyman Gallery, Kalwit Studio & Gallery, Lik and Vorravut and much more. For a list of all galleries exhibiting at Hotel Art Fair 209, click here.

Enough chit chat, let us show you around!

Free beer at Hotel Art Fair 2019

But first, let’s grab some complimentary beer and cider by the DJ station to get the party started.

This handmade guitar by Juli Baker and Summer gives the same feeling as love at first sight. The vivid colors are enough to brighten anyone’s day, even in this gloomy rainy season.

Wouldn’t you like one of these pretty babies on your wall? Now let’s move on to the exhibit by BGC Glass Studio, the first hand blown glass art studio and learning center in Thailand. The work of their artists are simply breathtaking. Have a look below:

This glass sculpture won’t stop moving! How clever.

The artist tells the story of pregnancy through contemporary art pieces using blown glass techniques. Zoom in, below!

Next, a beautifully macabre transition into the next room.

Wooden Bullets Artwork By De’Lapae Art Space Narathiwat

Artwork By De’Lapae Art Space Narathiwat

De’Lapae Art Space Narathiwat raises awareness for communities suffering from the ongoing conflict South Thailand through unique, heart-wrenching art pieces such as the one above depicting wooden bullet casings.

Truth By Purin Phanichphant

TRUTH (is black, white, and everything else in between) by Purin Phanichphant, is an evolution in the idea of creating an interactive, yet static, wall piece. As the viewer moves around the piece, the intricate construction shifts its appearance from completely black to completely white, reflecting how 'truth' can be polar opposites depending on one's perspective. Purin is a San Francisco, California based artist & designer whose work is shown at his studio, as well as in galleries and venues around the United States, Iceland, & Japan. Take a look at some of his other work below.

After speaking with the rest of the BangkokHaps team, we decided that we liked this room the best because of the interactive English word game spread out on the bed. What a great way to enjoy artistic work and pick up some vocabularies at the same time!

This is the first time Phurin Panichphan came back to Thailand to exhibit his artwork. His aim is to bring people together to enjoy work that demonstrates a hybrid world of reality and digital creations. Now onto the next room...

One of our favorite exhibition of the night is Gallery Seescape’s. Hailing from Chianti’s Mai, the gallery hosts clever artwork that teases capitalism and commercial art with illustrations of Mickey Mouse with eyes as dollar signs and Bart Simpson renamed as “Baht”, the Thai currency. Check out their Facebook Page here.

Another local favorite, Kalwit Studio & Gallery visually pleases and entertains with not only a wide array of art pieces but also comedic artists like photographer Eak, charming visitors with his jokes. Check out the artwork below.

Next, we enjoyed the work of Sacha, circulism paintings with happy vibes.

At Chardchakaj Waikawee‘s exhibit, viewers are captivated by antique photography shot using techniques from hundreds of years ago and a handmade camera made from—shiver—the wood of coffins. There is a fine line between art and insanity, they say... The results are, we have to admit, nothing short of perfect. Have a look below and decide for yourself.

Onto Serindia Gallery’s exhibit...

Art For Cancer By Ireal

For another year, social enterprise Art For Cancer By Ireal showcases some beautiful artwork to add color to the lives of cancer patients in Thailand. To follow the cause, like their Facebook Page.

Next, we have a sculpture of human’s lungs – reflecting the fragile beauty of our inner parts.

Hello, Seoul! The pieces from Korea Tomorrow below reflects a sense of nostalgia. This can be felt through each element portrayed in this painting, an appreciation of human history, perhaps. Time for photos of the artists and our team! Friendly and welcoming, they’re ready to share aspects of Korean culture with us.

Finally, we want to thank Farmgroup for organizing this fantastic event and for allowing us to be a part of their VIP Night. The Hotel Art Fair is a truly unique concept, bringing together top galleries and artists in Thailand and across Asia, allowing the people of Bangkok to see art in a different environment. We definitely recommend that you stay tuned for Hotel Art Fair 2020 by liking their Facebook Page.
