1. Songkran/เทศกาลสงกรานต์

Also known as the traditional celebration of the Thai New Year and the Water Festival, Songkran happens across Thailand around the 13th to 15th of April each year. Apart from splashing water at each other, Thais celebrate their beginning of the year by making merit at temples, praying, and sprinkling water on Buddha statues and respected elders. It is a time in which families come together. 

ถ้าพูดถึงเทศกาลในประเทศไทย คงหนีไม่พ้นเทศกาลสงกรานต์ ซึ่งฉลองกันโดยการเล่นน้ำสงกรานต์ทั่วประเทศในช่วงวันที่13-15 เมษายนของทุกปี นอกจากการเล่นน้ำดับร้อนแล้ว คนไทยก็จะทำบุญตักบาตร ไหว้พระขอพร สรงน้ำผู้ใหญ่ และอยู่กับครอบครัว เพื่อฉลองวันขึ้นปีใหม่ไทย

2. Phi Ta Khon/เทศกาลผีตาโขน

Phi Ta Khon Festival is celebrated every July for three days in Loei, a province in Northeastern Thailand. Attendees are required to dress up as ghosts and spirits, wearing large, colorful masks carved out of coconut fibers. There is a parade of spirits with music and dancing, similar to a Carnival Parade. Locals believe that on the last day of this festival, all attendees are supposed to throw their ghost costumes into the river, to symbolize leaving all troubles and bad karma behind for a life of peace and happiness.

เทศกาลผีตาโขนจะจัดขึ้นที่อำเภอด่านซ้าย จังหวัดเลย ในเดือนกรกฏาคมของทุกปีเป็นเวลา3วัน ผู้ที่เข้าร่วมฉลองเทศกาลนี้ต้องแต่งตัวให้คล้ายผีและใส่หน้ากากขนาดใหญ่ที่ทำจากกากมะพร้าวแกะสลักที่มีลวดลายสีสันสวยงาม จะมีการรวมตัวกันแห่ขบวนผีตาโขนไปตามท้องถนนพร้อมทั้งเต้นรำสนุกสนาน โดยคนในพื้นที่มีความเชื่อว่าหลังทำกิจกรรมเสร็จ ทุกคนจะต้องถอดเครื่องแต่งกายคล้ายผีออกและนำไปทิ้งในแม่น้ำ เหมือนกับการทิ้งความทุกข์ยากและสิ่งเลวร้ายไป

3. Illuminated Boat Procession or Lai Reua Fai/เทศกาลไหลเรือไฟ

Held in October in several Northeastern provinces by the river, the illuminated boat procession or Lai Reua Fai is a breathtaking sight. The boats are carefully uilt from banana trees or bamboo and are let out into the river at night, in the full moon at the end of Buddhist Lent, its candle lights illuminating the sky. It is an act of worship, and includes a morning of merit making as well as traditional Thai games. 

เทศกาลไหลเรือไฟ เป็นประเพณีที่จัดขึ้นในหลายๆ จังหวัดของภาคอีสาน บริเวณที่ติดแม่น้ำ ช่วงเดือนตุลาคม ตรงกับวันออกพรรษา โดยเชื่อว่าเป็นการบูชาสิ่งศักสิทธ์ เรือไฟที่ใช้ประกอบการทำมาจากต้นกล้วยหรือไม่ไผ่ที่ต่อกันเป็นโครง รูปทรงสวยงาม การไหลเรือไฟจะเกิดขึ้นตอนกลางคืน โดยจะมีผู้คนมากมายมาชมความงดงามของเรือไฟและทำบุญร่วมกันในตอนเช้า นอกจากนี้ยังมีการละเล่นพื้นบ้านต่างๆ อีกด้วย

4. Yi Peng Festival/เทศกาลยี่เป็ง

If you are bored of the usual Loy Krathong Festival, why not join the Lanna-style lantern celebration in the gorgeous skies Northern Thailand? In Lanna, the ancient kingdom between Thailand and Myanmar, locals launched illuminating lanterns into the night sky during Yi Peng Festival. Nowadays, Thais do the same during November, in Northern provinces such as Chiang Mai. You can also find tradition Krathongs, Lanna decorative lighting, stalls and fun activities at target areas.

คุณเบื่อการลอยกระทงแบบเดิมๆ ก็ควรมาลองลอยกระทงแบบชาวล้านนาดูนะ ประเพณียี่เป็งหรือการปล่อยโคมลอย จัดขึ้นช่วงเดียวกับวันลอยกระทง ในเดือนพฤศจิกายน ที่ภาคเหนือของประเทศไทย โดยในสถานที่ต่างๆ จะมีการประดับไฟสวยงาม และมีร้านค้าและกิจกรรมต่างๆ ให้ทุกคนได้ร่วมสนุกกัน

5. Borsang Umbrella & Sankampaeng Craft Festival/ เทศกาลร่มบ่อสร้างและหัตถกรรมสันกำแพง

Borsang Umbrella & Sankampaeng Craft Festival is held at Bor Sang Village in the San Kamphaeng District of Chiang Mai around the beginning of the year. This three-day festival is all about umbrellas, if you haven’t guessed by now. Join the festival to see streets, houses and buildings decorated with painted umbrellas and experience Lanna traditional arts and performances. Take a stroll down the 1-kilometer long walking street, a shopper’s paradise of street food, arts and crafts, and Thai souvenirs. If you fall in love with a particular painted umbrella, you are also welcome to purchase and bring it back home!

เป็นประเพณีที่จัดขึ้นที่ หมู่บ้านบ่อสร้าง อำเภอสันกำแพง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ โดยประเพณีนี้จะจัดขึ้นทุกๆ ต้นปี เป็นเวลาประมาณ 3วัน จะเป็นงานแสดงร่ม แข่งขันความสวยงาม และยังมีการนำร่มมาตกแต่งอาคารและที่พักอาศัย รวมถึงการแสดงศิลปะพื้นบ้านแบบชาวล้านนาตามท้องถนน ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นอีกจุดเด่นของงานเลยก็ว่าได้ โดย walking street นี้จะมีซุ้มตลอดทางยาวถึง1กิโลเมตร มีทั้งอาหาร ศิลปะและของฝากมากมาย ถ้าใครถูกใจร่มอันไหนก็สามารถซื้อได้เช่นกัน
